Gaius Sallustius Crispus Passienus

Gaius Crispus Sallust Passienus was a prominent Roman senator in the first half of the 1st century AD He came from Visellium and was the son of Lucius Passienus Rufus (consul in 4 BC ) and the adopted grandson and biological great- nephew of the historian Sallust.

He had power, wealth and influence. So he held in 27 the office of Suffektkonsuls, was 42/43 proconsul of the province of Asia, and in 44 consul for the second time, this time as consul ordinarius together with Titus Statilius Taurus.

He completed his first marriage in 33 with Domitia, a great-niece of the Emperor Augustus. At the insistence of the Emperor Claudius out he let himself in late February / early March of this year 41 of Domitia divorced to marry Agrippina the Younger. This had just lost her first husband due to an illness and had returned with her son Lucius Domitius Ahenobarbus, the future emperor Nero from exile.

Passienus died about the year 47 or 48, but possibly at an earlier time after the year 44 Allegedly Agrippina had poisoned him. This view is probably due to an indication in Suetonius, who wrote in his brief biography of De Vita Passieni Crispi to the end: "He came to be buried by a malice Agrippina, whom he had used as an heiress, and was in a state funeral ."
