Gaiziņkalns

View from the top

The Gaising, Latvian Gaiziņkalns, is the highest point in Latvia and is located about 311 meters above sea level.

It is located from the capital Riga seen in an easterly direction, about halfway to the Russian border, near the city Madona in a natural park.

The Gaising is a popular tourist destination. Since the 1920s, he is in the cold season with a drag lift and a downhill slope of the winter sports centers in the country.

Observation tower

On its top a 41 meter high observation tower was erected in 1982, but was never released for use due to poor foundations. The tower was probably not least established to provide the Suur Munamägi to surpass the highest with 318 meters mountain in neighboring Estonia. On 14 December 2012, the dilapidated tower was finally demolished. A new observation tower on the same site is being planned. However, the construction is still unclear.
