Galaktoboureko

Galaktoboureko, also Galaktompureko (Greek γαλακτομπούρεκο " milk - burek " or Turkish borek Sütlü ), is a Greek or Turkish dessert, is enveloped in the semolina pudding of phyllo dough. It is sometimes flavored with lemon or orange. Galaktoboureko is baked in the oven, either by coating of sheet metal and pudding layer with a few layers of buttered phyllo dough or by forms 10 cm long rolls of semolina custard, which are covered with buttered phyllo dough.

Unlike many pastries from the pastry custard is baked with the dough and not added as an afterthought.

It can be dusted with powdered sugar and served with a simple syrup.
