Galen Rupp

Galen Rupp ( born May 8, 1986 in Portland ) is an American long distance runner.

He first attended the private Central Catholic High School in Portland and then from 2005 to 2009 the University of Oregon in Eugene. During this time he developed under his coach Alberto Salazar as one of the outstanding young talents in the country. On several long distance on the track and in cross country, he collected numerous titles and records in competitions in the National Collegiate Athletic Association.

International Has appear mainly in the 10,000 -meter run. At the 2007 World Championships in Osaka, he finished in eleventh place over this distance. A year later he was at the Olympic Games in Beijing Thirteenth. At the World Championships in Berlin in 2009, he reached the eighth. In the same year he became U.S. champion in the 10,000 -meter run.

At the World Indoor Championships in Doha in 2010, he finished in the 3000 -meter run in a personal best of 7:42,40 min fifth.

He also presented the members of the IAAF Diamond League Memorial Van Damme meeting in Brussels on 17 September 2011 at a new American record in the 10,000 -meter run with 26:48,00 min and is the fastest non-African runners over 10,000 meters and the second ( according to Chris Solinsky, 26:59,60 min, 2010), which undercut the 27- minute limit.

At the Olympic Summer Games 2012 in London he won the 10,000 m behind his training partners Mo Farah the silver medal.

Galen Rupp is 1,80 m tall and has a competition weight of 61 kg.
