Galeopsis bifida

Double columned hollow tooth ( Galeopsis bifida )

The Two-Column hollow tooth ( Galeopsis bifida ) is a flowering plant in the family Lamiaceae ( Lamiaceae). It flowers from July to September.

Appearance

The annual herbaceous plant reaches a height of 20 to 50 cm. In her whole appearance it resembles the commons hollow tooth ( Galeopsis tetrahit ). The stalk is often branchy and very strong, usually without glands and among the nodes provided with projecting bristles, respectively. The leaves are oblong- ovate and crenate sawn. The calyx teeth are stachelspitzig and usually reach the end of the corolla tube. The lower lip of about 10 mm long crown is elongated and usually distinctly emarginate, rolled back later, and at the edge of dark - purple to violet color. It has two yellow throat spots with lighter edge, the rest of the crown is white or pink, rarely yellow.

Distribution and habitat requirements

The Two-Column hollow tooth grows in weed societies in fields, along roadsides and in clearcuts. He usually prefers fresh, nutrient-rich, more or less deficient in lime, sandy loam soils.

Galeopsis bifida occurs in central and northern Europe prior to Northern and Western Asia. Furthermore, it occurs in northern and central Balkans. He is a Eurasian Florenelement. In Austria, the species occurs in the silicate areas scattered, otherwise rare in Switzerland, she is apparently generally found only rarely.

The Two-Column hollow tooth is widespread in Germany and most frequently. Only in the southwest of the area he rarely occurs.

Synonyms

Previously, the Two-Column hollow tooth was ( tetrahit Galeopsis ) as a subspecies of Commons hollow tooth viewed. He is, however, in the opinion of many authors the Colorful hollow tooth ( Galeopsis speciosa) much closer. He is now generally recognized as a distinct species.

There appear numerous in the dissemination little-known hybrids between Galeopsis species. So the hybrids G. tetrahit x G. bifida and G. bifida x G. speciosa is known.
