Galiceno

The Mexican Galiceno Pony is well suited as a work horse under saddle, but also a popular youth riding horses and is also down.

Exterior

Its size is 128-142 cm. There are often brown, dun, foxes and stitchhaired. Piebald will not be allowed to breed, but occur anyway.

The Galiceno Pony has a classy, distinctive head with good throatlatch. Furthermore, it is characterized by a compact, but nevertheless small and light body whose back is not too long. His shoulder is steep and his chest narrow, it is on hard, healthy legs with wide hooves.

Is characterized by the soft, hard-working programs with high action. A special feature of Galiceno Ponies is the innate " running walk ", very similar to the gait.

Interior

The Galiceno Pony is considered affable, agile, versatile, robust and fast.

Breeding history

The ancestors of the ponies came from Galicia in North West Spain and were famous as leichttrittige gaited horses. In the 16th century, the Spaniards brought with them to America.

Since about 1950 its popularity in the U.S. is growing increasingly since 1958 and they are there recognized as a breed. Its current breeding region are Mexico and the southern United States.
