Galina Zybina

Galina Ivanovna Sybina (Russian: Галина Ивановна Зыбина, born January 22, 1931 in Leningrad) is a former Russian track and field athlete and Olympic champion, who took for the Soviet Union. At a height of 1.68 m, they had a competition weight of 80 kg.

Galina Ivanovna Sybina won 1950-1964 medals in shot put, discus throw and javelin. She was the first shot putter who could come on the 16 -meter mark.

Career

At the European Championships in 1950 Galina Sybina won with 42,75 m bronze in the javelin behind Natalya Smirnizkaja from the Soviet Union and Herma Bauma from Austria. In the shot put with 13.07 meters Sybina was fourth, she was 30 cm behind the Frenchwoman Micheline Ostermeyer in 3rd place

The first Olympic appearance of the Soviet team at the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki, the shot put was dominated by the Soviet poking gutters. Galina Sybina won with a new world record of 15.28 m gold before Marianne Werner from the Federal Republic of Germany. Klavdiia Totschonowa won bronze with 14.50 and Tamara Tyschkewitsch was fourth with 14.42 m. In the javelin was Galina Sybina fourth in 48.35, but was more than a meter behind the medals.

At the European Championships in 1954 Galina Sybina won the shot put with 15.65 meters before Maria Kuznetsova with 14,99 m and Tamara Tyschkewitsch 14.78 m. Prior to the 1956 Olympic Games, the world record stood in the shot put by Galina Sybina at 16.76 m. In Melbourne Tamara Tyschkewitsch won the qualification before Marianne Werner and Galina Sybina who came to 14.08 m. In the finals, which took place as the qualification on 30 November, Galina Sybina improved three times their own Olympic record of Helsinki, the last attempt ended up with 16,53 m.
