Gallegos River

The Río Gallegos is a river in the Argentine province of Santa Cruz in Patagonia. At its estuary ( Ria ) is the capital of the same province, Río Gallegos.

The river is formed at the confluence of Río Rubens and Río Penitentes near the Chilean border and ends after 180 km of the Atlantic Ocean.

On his way to the east, the Rio Gallegos, the Río Turbio tributaries, the Río Cóndor, and Río Zurdo. During the dry season the river is still often only a trickle.

The river was named in 1520 by Blasco Gallegos, one of the pilots of the Magellan expedition and is now known as a destination for fly fishermen catching trout here.
