Gallio, Veneto

Gallio is a Northeast Italian municipality ( comune ) with 2374 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Vicenza in the Veneto region. The community is located about 40 kilometers north of Vicenza and heard as Cimbric linguistic island of the seven churches.

History

In the Middle Ages Ezzelinis ruled over the community. During the First World War, the battle between the three mountains ( Col del Rosso, Col d' Ecchele and Monte Valbella ) took place in January 1918.

  • Giulia Gianesini (* 1984), alpine skier who grew up in Gallio
  • Julio Bavastro (1894-1918), Uruguayan football player who died at the front in Monte Valbella ( in the municipality ) in the First World War

Sports

Several ski jumping competitions were held on the Trampolino del Pakstall.
