The Gallitzinberg or Wilhelmina Berg, colloquially Galiziberg ( stressed on the first i), is a mountain in the western part of Vienna - Ottakring, depending on the design (with or without Jubiläumswarte as summit), 388 or 449 meters.

Name

Named is the Gallitzinberg, formerly pulpit, after the Russian ambassador in Vienna, Demetrius Gallitzin Mikhailovich, the vast possessions acquired here in the 1780s.

The name comes from the mountain Wilhelmine later owner, Wilhelmine Montléart - Saxe- Courland ( step- daughter of Maria Christina of Saxony- Courland), a patron in Ottakring (see Wilhelminenspital ). Since the desire of the prince was not met by renaming Gallitzinberg on Wilhelminenberg official hand, he left panels labeled " Wilhelmine mountain" install, reaching an indirect change of name. There were even newspaper reports initiated to enforce this renaming.

Today, all three place names are used side by side, even long-established Ottakringerstraße and thorough local historian can not define the difference between " pulpit ", " Gallitzinberg " and " Wilheminenberg " exactly. At least as a name of a comprehensive three Zählsprengel statistical Zählbezirks leads the mountain today officially hand the name Wilhelmine mountain.
