Gallura

The previously sparsely populated Gallura ( Gaddura ) is a granite region in the northeast of the Italian Mediterranean island of Sardinia; within sight of their North Coast is Corsica. The Gallura is geologically the northern part of a crystalline height zone, which runs through eastern half of Sardinia in north-south direction. In honor of the famous white wine Vermentino di Gallura is named.

The coast of this on tourism first developed area of Sardinia (Costa Smeralda ) is highly structured and has a number of offshore islands. In the inland cork oak forests and scrub dominate the picture. The main towns of the area are Arzachena ( Alzachena ), Olbia (formerly Terranoa ), with as Golfo Aranci ferry and airport, Tempio Pausania ( Tempiu ) and La Maddalena ( Maddalena A ). From Palau regular ferries to the Ship 15 minutes distant island of La Maddalena.

The Gallura in 2005 merged to form the new province of Olbia- Tempio.

The Gallurese language is closely related to the Corsican language.

From the North Harbor Santa Teresa Gallura there are only 12 km to Corsica. Ferries to commute from there several times a day to Bonifacio. In clear weather you can see the shine white chalk cliffs from the high mountains of Corsica. At Capo Testa one finds a bizarre rock formations with a number of granite formations, which were given the names of animals because of their appearance.
