Galsan Tschinag

Galsan Tschinag (Mongolian Чинаагийн Галсан, actually Irgit Schynykbai - oglu Dshurukuwaa, born December 26, 1944 at Bajan Ölgii Aimag, Mongolia) is a native of Mongolia German-speaking writer. He is a member of the PEN center of Germany.

He is a member of the ethnic group of the Turkic Tuvan. Tschinag is also tribal chief, shaman, teacher, and actor. He sees himself primarily as a breadwinner of his tribe, he has led a caravan of Siberia in its Mongolian homeland. He became known as the German-speaking writer.

Life

Galsan Tschinag was born in 1944 in Bayan - Ölgii Aimag, in the High Altai in western Mongolia youngest son of a Tuvan family. His aunt - the brother of his father 's wife - was a shaman. 1962 to 1968 he studied German at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig and completed his studies with a thesis on Erwin Strittmatter. He then returned to Mongolia and worked as a German teacher at the National University of Mongolia. In 1976, the teaching license was revoked because of political unreliability. In 1980 Galsan Tschinag with his life already with only 36 years from after a serious heart condition he was diagnosed with. The author previously worked 12 hours a day as a teacher at all four Mongolian universities. According Tschinag him alone his shamanic powers and a lot of sports have saved his life.

He now lives most of the year in the capital Ulan Bator and his nearly 20 - member family and spending time on reading tours in German speaking countries. One third of the year he spends at his residence in Ulan Bator, in Europe and in the Western Mongolian steppe with his Tuvan tribe. He writes his novels, stories and poems mostly in German, which is why he is seen as a German-speaking migrants writer. His stories have been translated into many other languages.
