Galt MacDermot
Galt MacDermot ( born December 18, 1928 in Montreal ) is a Canadian composer.
As a child he received a comprehensive musical education ( recorder, violin, piano). In the early 1950s he studied at the College of Music in Cape Town, South Africa, where he learned to rhythmically especially; He later called this phase as one of its most important. He then worked in his home town first as organist and church musician, and as a composer of jazz and rock songs, and later as bar pianist in New York.
For his piece "African Waltz", he received a Grammy Award. He also composed film music and several musicals, of which Hair was the best known.
In 2006 published the hip hop producer "Oh No " on the highly respected label Stones Throw album "Exodus into unheard rhythms ", which is based on music by Galt MacDermot.
The song " Woo Hah! Got You All in Check" by rapper Busta Rhymes is based on a sample of Galt MacDermots piece "Space".
