Gamaret

Gamaret is a red grape variety. It is a new variety of the Swiss Federal Agricultural Research Station ( Agroscope RAC Changins ) in Pully. 1970 developed André Jaquinet and Dominique Maigre in Pully (Vaud / Switzerland ) that variety by crossing of Gamay and Reichensteiner. In 1991, the variety received the entry in the Swiss variety list. The grape variety has been tested on approximately 120 parcels ( total of 3 to 4 acres on all major soil types ) that are scattered throughout the canton. From the same intersection, the new breed Garanoir emerged.

Thanks to the very high resistance to gray mold (Botrytis cinerea ) and an early maturity pleased the Gamaret great popularity among producers. The vine is now cultivated on an area of around 367 hectares in Switzerland (as of 2007, source: Office fédéral de l'agriculture OFAG ), among others, on Lake Geneva ( Peissy, La Côte ). In small quantities it is also cultivated in Germany ( Württemberg wine region ). The Geisenheim Research Institute also operates small areas for trial cultivation. The customer estimates the Gamaret due to the color strong, spicy red wines, it delivers. The wine can be stored well.
