Gambian general election, 1966

The parliamentary elections in Gambia in 1966 were held on May 26, 1966 at the West African nation of Gambia. These elections ( also: General elections) were selected for 32 seats in the House of Representatives (English House of Representatives ).

The People's Progressive Party (PPP ) could reach three-quarters of the seats. The second strongest force was the United Party (UP).

Election procedures and circles

It was (English House of Representatives ) elected for the third time the House of Representatives. The House of Representatives had a total of 40 members of which were elected 32 in a direct line. Eight other members were appointed by the chiefs.

Due to political differences between Ibrahima Garba Momodou - Jahumpa and John Colley Faye, the Democratic Congress Alliance had dissolved before the elections, Garba - Jahumpa continued on his way to the newly formed Gambia Congress Party ( GCP), the rest of the DCA was in 1965 in the PPP on.

Western Kiang 1968

After the elected representative of the constituency Saloum, Ebrima D. N'Jie (UP), had died in late 1970, elections were scheduled in January 1971 in the constituency. Kebba A. Bayo (PPP ) won the constituency for itself.
