Gambro AB ( Gamla Brogatans Sjukvårdsaffär Aktiebolaget ) is a global medical technology company in the field of dialysis technology. Gamla Brogatans Sjukvårdsaffär stands for: for medical accessories at the old bridge road. The Swedish company based in Lund employs 7,000 people and is a provider of products and services in the field of chronic and acute renal replacement therapy ( dialysis) and liver replacement therapy.

Gambro was founded in 1964 by Holger Crafoord to exploit the economic potential of the development of the Nile Alwall.

With its production facilities in eleven countries, sales in 100, and sales in more than 40 countries, the company offers products and services for patients, doctors and nursing staff. The Group's largest production plant is located in Hechingen in Baden -Württemberg and is the largest employer with 1,400 employees of the place. More German offices are a production facility in Rostock and a sales company in Grobenzell near Munich.

2006 Gambro was involved by Indap AB, a company in which Investor AB and the private equity group EQT taken over. 2007, Gambro dialysis centers sold the remaining ( Gambro Healthcare) to investment company Bridgepoint, which further leads them under the name Diaverum. On December 4, 2012 Baxter International announced the acquisition of Gambro at a purchase price of approximately € 3 billion.

The abbreviation " AK " of the device name ( AK100, AK200, etc.) stands for "artificial kidney" to German: artificial kidney.
