Game Rating Board

The Game Rating Board ( Kor. 게임물 등급 위원회 ) is the South Korean government organization that evaluates and age classification of computer and video games.

Method

A twenty -member jury reviewed all games submitted and speaks against pre-determined criteria a recommendation on age classification from. A committee of nine members shall thereupon taking into account the recommendation laid the final maturity level.

In the event that a game is classified as a dangerous gamble with a maturity level may be refused. Without such an age classification games may not be published in South Korea.

History

The Game Rating Board was established on 30 October 2006. Previously, the state's Korea Media Board, part of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, responsible for the evaluation. Once there was a far-reaching corruption scandal involving the game Sea Story, were involved in the high-ranking officials, the Game Rating Board was created. The first chairman was Kim Key -man.

By 2006, video games were like Ghost Recon 2 banned in South Korea yet, where military and violent actions against North Korea were shown. The end of 2006 gave the Game Rating Board the lifting of this ban known. Games with such content are now, after examining its contents by the organization authorized.
