Gamelan Gong Kebyar

Gamelan Gong Kebyar is one of the most important contemporary music styles of Bali. It differs from other Gamelanstilen by a very high virtuosity. The word Kebyar suggests it. It means " suddenly flare ", " burst ".

The instruments of the early 20th century developed Gong Kebyar is mainly based on the large court orchestra Gong Gede. Individual instruments were replaced by others with greater mobility and greater tonal range, so a virtuoseres game is possible. The orchestra performs new compositions and old in a new style.

The instruments of the ensemble are:

  • Metalophones with wooden frame: Gangsa Kantilan, Pemade, Ugal, Calung, Jegogan, Penyacah
  • Boiler Gong Games: Trompong, Reyong
  • Gongs: Kempli, Kempur, Gong Gede
  • Kendang, a beaten with hands double skin drum
  • Cengceng: small hunched pool
  • Rebab: spit sounds
  • Suling: Bamboo Flute
