Gampaha District
Gampaha is a district in the Western Province in Sri Lanka. It has an area of 1,387 km ². Capital is Gampaha.

The population was 2012 2.294.641 persons according to the census.

History
The Colombo district was shared with the district reform of 31 August 1978. From parts of the former District Colombo emerged as the district Gampaha.
Management
The head of the district is entitled District Secretary. The district is further divided into thirteen divisions ( under a Division Secretary ). The cities and larger towns have their own government ( municipal council or municipal council ). There are 1,177 community councils ( Grama Niladharis ) for 1'794 villages throughout the district.
