Gams is the end of 2014 a municipality with 565 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the northern Upper Styria in the judicial district or county Lienzen. As part of the municipality of structural reform in Styria it is merged in 2015 with the communities Mooslandl, Palfau and ( lying in the district of Leoben ) community Hieflau, the new community will continue the name Mooslandl. This is based on the Styrian community structure reform law - StGsrG. The boundaries of the districts Liezen and Leoben are up to the effective date of the merger changed so that the new church will lie entirely in the district Lienzen.

Geography

Gams is located in a side valley of the Enns and the Salza in Upper Styria. The area belongs to the western foothills of the high Schwab, but has no high mountain character.

Structure

The municipality comprises only a homonymous cadastral. The community Gams has three different districts: Gams, Gamsforst and herb ditch.

Population Development

The population fluctuated since 1869 decades between about 700 and 800 since 1971 ( 759 inhabitants), the population declined steadily up to the current value of 593.

The council consists of nine members and is since the municipal elections 2010 mandates the following parties together: 4 FPÖ, 3 SPÖ, ÖVP 2

Coat of arms

The award of the municipality coat of arms was made with effect from 1 December 1991. Coat Description: In a blue shield silver under a colliding at the plate edges sheet of gypsum crystals in the form of dovetail twins growing three peaks, is at its middle, humiliated, tricuspid a Gams ".

Religion

96.3 % of the population are Roman Catholic, 2.2% Protestant. Other faiths are not represented or only in minimal proportions. Without religious beliefs are 1.1%.
