Ganlu zishu

Ganlu zishu (. Sino干 禄 字 书/干 禄 字 书; eng "Character Book for Seeking an Official emolument ", German " character book for future ministry contender" ) is a Chinese orthographic words or better: Sketchbook from the time of Tang Dynasty. It is the first character word dictionary for the Chinese regular script ( kaishu ). Its author is Yuansun Yan (Chinese颜 元 孙/颜 元 孙), a descendant of the famous scholar Yan Shigu (颜师古).

On the whole, the work (字样eng "Character Samples". ; German " character pattern " ) is based on Yan Shigus work Ziyang, which is now only preserved in fragments. It was meant as an official guide for the use of specimens of the Imperial Chinese civil service exam, hence his title Ganlu, an allusion to the Analects ( 2:18 ).

The factory covers 804 characters ( with a total of 1656 variants). The characters are carefully compiled to note names and syllable rhymes ( roughly those which are also used Qieyun ). The variants of a character are three types divided standardized form (正), exchangeable (通) and popular form (俗). Each character has not all three types of variants. Of the examinee was expected to use the " standard form " of a character.

The text has been cut by the calligraphy of Yan Zhenqing, the nephew of Yan Yuansun in stone. The stone is worn, however.
