Gao Jun

Gao Jun ( born January 25, 1969 in Baoding, China ) is a Chinese born American table tennis player. Four times she took part in the Olympic Games and took silver in 1992 while in the doubles.

Career

Gao Jun was born in China. At age five she started under the guidance of a trainer with the table tennis sport. As a 17- year-old she was accepted into the National Team of China. She was trained by Zhang Xielin, Zhang Li and Hui Jun. 1994 she moved to the U.S., but still played until 1999 under Chinese flag. Later, she became an American citizen.

Since 1989 she has participated in 15 World Championships (until 2012 ). In 1991, she was in a double with Chen Zihe world champion, with the Chinese team was runner-up. At the next World Cup in 1993 they also won the team competition for the title. Four times they came to the semifinals, 1989 Double with Liu Wei and mixed with Chen Longcan and 1993 in singles and doubles with Chen Zihe. In 1992 she qualified for the first time to participate in the Olympic Games. Here she won with her doubles partner Chen Zihe the silver medal behind the Chinese women Deng Yaping / Qiao Hong. In their Olympic Participation under the flag of the United States - 2000, 2004 and 2008 - they did not come in the near medal ranks.

Since 1999, Gao Jun participates in the North American championships (North American Championship ), where she won many titles in singles and doubles with various partners. Even with the PAN American Games she won in 1999, 2003 and 2007 in singles, 2003 doubles with Jasna Fazlić and 1999 and 2007 in the team competition. Successes they achieved even at the ITTF Pro Tour, where they 2005 First and 2006 Second was at the Grand Finals in a double with Shen Yanfei.

2009 Gao Jun in the USATT Hall of Fame ( American Table Tennis Association ) was added. Since 2011, it operates a table tennis school in El Monte ( California).

Activities in Europe

Gao Jun played until 2007 at the Dutch club TTV Heerlen and then moved to the German Bundesliga TV Busenbach. Here they remained for one season and then returned to Heerlen.
