Gao Min (diver)

Gao Min ( Chinese高 敏, Pinyin Gao Mǐn; born September 7, 1970 in Zigong ) is a former Chinese art jumper. She won two gold medals at Olympic Games, two gold medals at the Asian Games and three world championship titles. She was a bearer of the Olympic torch during the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing.

Career

Gao began swimming as a four- year-old and, after she started gymnastics, discovered in the school by a coach for art and diving, which she moved to change the sport. In 1985, she was included in the national squad of the People's Republic of China. At the World Cup 1986 in Madrid, she won her first gold medal from the three- meter board at its international debut. Two years later she won the gold medal from the three- meter board at the Summer Olympic Games in Seoul in 1988. In the Asian Games 1990 in Beijing Gao Min won two gold medals from the three- meter board and one-meter board. At the 1991 World Championships in Perth, they also won two boards of the title. In 1992, Gao part in the Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona and was the three- meter board again win the gold medal.

Gao Min is the only jumper that could surpass the 600 -point mark in the competition. After the end of her active career, she worked as a trainer in Edmonton. She performed during the opening ceremony of the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing as one of the last torchbearer of the interior lighting of the flame on.
