The Kaplankyr Nature Reserve is situated on the southern edge of the Ust- Urt plateau in the province Dasoguz in northern Turkmenistan. It covers an area of ​​over 8000 square kilometers and includes two specially protected areas Sarykamysh Reserve and Shakhsenem Reserve.

Kaplankyr means " cheetah plateau ", but the big cats are extinct in the entire area of the Ust- Urt now.
