García II of Galicia

García ( * 1042, † March 22, 1090 ) was a King of Galicia from the house Jiménez.

He was the youngest of five children of the king Ferdinand I of León - Castile and Sancha of León. His older siblings were Urraca, Sancho II, Elvira and Alfonso VI.

Ferdinand I had agreed to a division of his reign territory among his sons before his death in 1065. While Sancho II of Castile and with Alfonso VI. were equipped with León García had received the Kingdom of Galicia with the tributary Muslim Taifa of Badajoz. To his Kingdom and the County of Portugal had heard that ranged from the Rio Miño up to Coimbra. My Graf, Nuno Mendes, immediately rose up against Garcia, but in February 1071 to kill the Count in the Battle of Pedroso and Portugal so again could bring under his direct control.

After Sancho II had died in the autumn of 1072 Garcia was again to return to his kingdom, but was then in 1073 by Alfonso VI. captured under the pretext of a peace talk. In this way, had Alfonso VI. the Father's kingdom now may reunite under his rule. García had died after twenty-seven captivity and were buried in the Abbey of San Isidoro in Leon.
