Gardner Williams

Gardner Boyd Williams ( born April 16, 1877 in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, † December 14, 1933 in San Diego, California ) was an American freestyle swimmer who participated in the 1896 Summer Olympics. He was able to win a medal.

Williams stepped up to the 100 - meter freestyle swimming as well as in the 1200 - meter freestyle swimming, but ended up not in the medals. The exact times and places are not known. Williams came from an influential and wealthy Boston family. His father was a successful wool merchant. He was often as a child been to Europe, where he was present at the shops of his father. The later allowed him to go as Olympic athletes to Athens, because he knew the good European practice. He was one of the few participants from overseas who paid their stay in Athens itself completely.
