History

In the first half of the 19th century Taganrog was rightly regarded as one of the largest port cities of Russia. Hundreds of ships from many European ports came here. The city's name Taganrog was known as the buying and sailors from Liverpool, Bristol, Lisbon, Marseilles, Genoa, Leghorn, and other ports around the world.

Giuseppe Garibaldi was born into a sailor family and grew up by the sea. After 1832 the captain of a merchant ship was, he visited with his schooner Clorinda many ports, but also several times Taganrog.
