Garkalne, Ādaži Municipality

Garkalne is a town in Latvia 25 km northeast from the capital Riga and namesake of the same administrative unit ( lett: Garkalnes novads ).

The place was the first time in 1945, and was raised Ortschaftsrat 1990 supplement of neighboring areas to the community ( lett pagast ). The administrative center of today's district is located in Berģi, a suburb of Riga, its eastern part in 1977, separated from the urban area.

The forests around Garkalne harbored extensive weapons and ammunition of the Red Army, which have crumbled today. The area is a nature reserve.
