Garlepp's mouse

The Garlepp mouse ( Galenomys garleppi ) is a living in South America rodent species from the group of the New world.

These rodents have a stocky built body with big ears. They reach a body length 10-12 centimeters, the tail is 4 to 5 centimeters short. The weight is around 60 grams. The coat is yellow-brown on the top, bottom and feet are whitish.

Garlepp mice are, the western Bolivia and northeastern Chile located in the Altiplano in southern Peru. They live at altitudes of 3800-4500 meters. So far, only five specimens have been found, accordingly unknown is their way of life. The IUCN lists them as not at risk, this information is deprecated.

Systematically likely to be related Garlepp the mouse close to the Big-eared mice ( Auliscomys ).
