Garnet Clark

Garnet Clark ( * 1917 in Washington, DC, † 1938 ) was an American jazz pianist. He played with Django Reinhardt.

Life and work

Garnet Clark was worshiped from childhood as a musical prodigy and had been sixteen years as a professional pianist and as an arranger in the orchestra of drummer Tommy Myles. He came to New York in 1933; there he took with Alex Hill on some titles and played in the band of Charlie Barnet. Benny Carter recommended him to Willie Lewis in Paris, where he arrived in 1935. Immediately after his arrival, he played with in a session with Django Reinhardt and Bill Coleman, when he as a leader ( Garnet Clark's Hot Club Four) acted. On November 25, the title Rosetta, Stardust and The Object of My Affection arisen; it was the most important recordings of the young pianist. After that, he opted for a solo career, has performed in Switzerland and accompanied the singer Adelaide Hall. Garnet Clark, 21-year- old, mentally ill should die in a hospital in Paris, just three years after the Reinhardt session.

His piano playing processed influences of Earl Hines and Fats Waller and is the liquid and light game Teddy Wilson's close.
