Garrard County, Kentucky

Garrard County is a county located in the state of Kentucky in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Lancaster, which was named after the town in Pennsylvania. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.

Geography

The County is located east of the geographic center of Kentucky and has an area of 606 square kilometers, of which seven square kilometers of water surface.

It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Jessamine County, Madison County, Rockcastle County, Lincoln County, Boyle County and Mercer County.

History

Garrard County was formed on December 17, 1796 from parts of Lincoln County, Madison County and Mercer County. It was named after Governor James Garrard.

Harriet Beecher Stowe, author of Uncle Tom's Cabin visited to gather material for her book the Kennedy estate in Garrard County. The former hut was a little off and was destroyed in 1926. Later, the officials of the county at the country residence of Governor William Owsley planned to build the hut again.
