Geographical location

The community Garrel, located in the immediate vicinity of Thülsfelder dam and the natural park Geest is located 28 km south of the city of Oldenburg, and 13 km north of the town of Cloppenburg.

Climate

Meteorite impact in Beverbruch

On September 10, 1930 at 14.15 clock struck in the district Beverbruch one a meteorite. It is part of Oldenburg meteorite, which broke in about 4 km altitude above the village Döhlen in at least two main parts which Beverbruch and Bissel (municipality Großenkneten ) went down. The larger fragment Beverbruch with a weight of 11.73 kg is now in private hands, after 1995, the daughter of the owner Konrad Meyer offered it from the permanent loan to the Museum Cloppenburg for sale. The fragment Bissel is also in the collections of the museum village, but there is not on public display. Also in Beverbruch no memorial stone at the site of the impact is erected.

Mayor

Mayor of Garrel 's Andreas Bartels ( CDU), who was able to prevail against his opponent in a runoff election on 24 September 2006, 51 -vote lead. Evangelical Lutheran Church congregation Garrel

In 1950, the " Church of Peace " was built as a community center of Bartning- emergency churches - D type. It was declared a National Monument.
