Garrett L. Withers

Garrett Lee Withers ( born June 21, 1884 Webster County, Kentucky, † April 30, 1953 in Bethesda, Maryland ) was an American politician (Democratic Party), who represented the state of Kentucky in both chambers of Congress.

Garrett Withers came up on a farm in Kentucky to the world. After attending the Normal School and a law degree, he was admitted to the bar in 1908. From 1911 to 1953 he worked as a trial attorney in Webster County. During this time he held various other public offices; he was an administrative officer at the District Court of Webster County (1910-1912), top official at the same Court (1913-1917), member of the Kentucky Highway Commission (1932-1936), arbitrator in bankruptcy cases (1941-1945) and Head of the highway by the Kentucky Department ( 1947-1949 ).

As albums W. Barkley on January 20, 1949 from his position in the U.S. Senate resigned to become Vice President of the United States, Garrett Withers was appointed to succeed him in Congress. He remained there until November 26, 1950; for election to this Senate seat he was not nominated.

After 1951 a member of the House of Representatives from Kentucky, won Withers on August 2, 1952 election to the U.S. House of Representatives, which was necessitated by the death of Democratic Rep. John A. Whitaker. The re-election, he decided for himself. However, Garrett Withers died later during his second term of office on 30 April 1953 at the Bethesda Naval Hospital.
