Garrett Reisman

Garrett Erin Reisman ( born February 10, 1968 in Morristown, New Jersey, USA ) is a former American astronaut.

Training

Reisman graduated 1986, the Parsippany High School in New Jersey from. He then studied at the University of Pennsylvania economy and engineering. In both disciplines, he earned a bachelor's degree in 1991. He then moved to the California Institute of Technology, where he continued his studies in mechanical engineering. This he finished in 1992 with a Master and 1997 with a PhD.

Astronauts activity

In June 1998, Reisman was selected as astronaut candidate by NASA. After the division for long-term occupation followed ISS Expedition 16 to the International Space Station.

NEEMO 5

In June 2003, Dr. Reisman was as Aquanaut at the NEEMO 5 mission in the Aquarius underwater laboratory and worked there for 14 days.

ISS Expedition 16

On 11 March 2008 he started with STS -123 to the International Space Station, which brought a certain part of the Japanese Kibo module and Canadian Dextre robot hand to the ISS. After pairing, he pulled Léopold Eyharts from a second flight engineer of 16 long-term occupation. With the arrival of the STS -124 mission on 2 June 2008 finally took his U.S. colleague Gregory Chamitoff the task of the second flight engineer on the ISS, so that he could return safely to Earth on June 14, 2008.

STS -132

On 6 May 2009 Reisman was nominated as a Mission Specialist for mission STS -132. This was the penultimate flight of the space shuttle Atlantis. In March 2011, Reisman joined the U.S. space company SpaceX. He works there work to make the rocket Falcon 9 and the Dragon spacecraft safe enough for manned missions.
