Garry Lake

Garry Lake ( Inuktitut: Hanningajuq ) is a large lake in the subarctic Kivalliq region of Nunavut in Canada.

He, together with the adjacent west Upper Garry Lake and the east adjoining Lower Garry Lake, the lake system of Garry Lakes. These lakes are traversed by the Back River from west to east. Next is upstream from the Pelly Lake, continue under the current BULIARD Lake. All the lakes are separated by rapids. The water level of Upper Garry Lake, Garry Lake and Lower Garry Lake located at 154 m, 152 m and 149 m. The total water surface of the lake system of Garry Lakes covers 916 km ². The Garry Lakes are located in an uninhabited area far from permanent settlements.

Geography

The Garry Lakes lake system lies in the geological province of the Churchill craton Rae craton. It is a landscape with small differences in altitude. By the lake Sedge plants grow.

Fauna

Since Canada geese during their molting in late summer fly to the lake, the Canadian Wildlife Service declared the area as a bird sanctuary ( " Key Migratory Bird Terrestrial Habitat Site").

Mineral resources

In 1981 Kidd Creek Minerals discovered on the northern shore of Lake Garry uranium- bearing rock. 2007 explored Uravan Minerals Inc. this area with the aim of drilling and a subsequent exploitation.
