Garry Parker

Garry Parker ( born September 7, 1965 in Oxford ) is a former English footballer. His most successful period was spent between 1988 and 1991 at Nottingham Forest. Since 1 July 2010, he joined the coaching staff of Neil Lennon the Scottish first division club Celtic Glasgow.

Playing career

Luton Town and Hull City (1983-1988)

Garry Parker began his professional career with the English first division club Luton Town, but earned in the following three years a regular place in Luton. On 21 February 1986, he therefore moved to second division side Hull City. Parker spent two seasons as a regular player in the Football League Second Division and made primarily 1987/88 with eight goals in thirty-four league games noticed.

Nottingham Forest (1988-1991)

On 24 March 1988 he was engaged by the first division club Nottingham Forest. The coached by Brian Clough Team reached in the 1988/89 season the third place, increasing the good league position by winning the English League Cup 1988/89. In the final, the team defeated by Garry Parker ( 22 league games / 7 goals) his former club Luton Town 3-1. A year later, the team confirmed this success with a 1-0 victory in the League Cup final in 1990 against Oldham Athletic. Even in the more prestigious FA Cup, the team acted successfully. After two semi-finals in 1988 and 1989, the team moved into the FA Cup Final in 1991. On 18 May 1991, the team of Garry Parker lost, however, in front of 80,000 spectators at Wembley 1:2 after extra time against Tottenham Hotspur.

Aston Villa (1991-1995)

After three and a half years in Nottingham Parker signed on November 29, 1991 a contract with Aston Villa. In the newly formed Premier League 1992/93 Parker won (37 games / 9 goals) with his team, the runner-up behind Manchester United. The 1993/94 season went for him with two goals in nineteen games much worse. Aston Villa won this season the English League Cup 1993/94 by a 3-1 victory over Manchester United. Garry Parker, however, was not in the squad for the final game.

Leicester City (1995-2001)

On 10 February 1995 he moved with 29 years of Leicester City. With the end of the season he got promoted from the Premier League 1994/95 in the second division from. In 1996, the team to a fifth place in the regular season, by a 2-1 in extra time in the play-off final against Crystal Palace, the direct promotion back to the Premier League. In the Premier League 1996 /97 the Movers this time secured ninth place in the league, also moved the team to a League Cup final in 1997. After a 1-1 N.V. in the first game against FC Middlesbrough, Leicester won the replay 1-0 aet and thus secured the title. His last league game for Leicester, he played on 30 January 1999. 2001 he acted briefly as interim coach before he left the club on 21 December 2001.
