Garth Snow

Garth E. Snow ( born July 28, 1969 in Wrentham, Massachusetts ) is a retired American professional ice hockey goaltender of the 1993-2006 Québec for the Nordiques, Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders in the National Hockey League played. Since July 2006 he has been general manager of the New York Islanders.

Career as a player

Garth Snow was selected at the NHL Entry Draft in 1987 by the Quebec Nordiques in the sixth round at position 114. He then played one year at the Stratford Cullitons before he went on the ice for five years with the University of Maine.

In 1993 he came to his first race for the Quebec Nordiques and was followed in the 1993/94 season four more missions. Throughout his career, Snow graduated 388 games in the NHL for the Quebec Nordiques, Philadelphia Flyers, Vancouver Canucks, Pittsburgh Penguins and New York Islanders. A title he never won and as the number one, he was able to prevail for a long time in any team.

In the 1994/95 season he played mainly for the Cornwall Aces of the American Hockey League, while he completed two games for the Nordiques. After the season, the Nordiques moved to Denver and changed their name to Colorado Avalanche. Shortly afterwards transferred him to the Philadelphia Flyers, where he collaborated with Ron Hextall was the goalkeeper of the team Flyers from 1995 to 1998. In the season 1996/97, the Flyers reached the finals series for the Stanley Cup against the Detroit Red Wings and lost them in four games. Snow came in the playoffs this season on twelve missions.

In March 1998 he was transferred to an exchange transaction for Sean Burke to the Vancouver Canucks. There he took a moment to post as goalkeeper, but had to share it with Felix Potvin him a year. After two years he left the Canucks and signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins, where he shared the place as goalkeeper Jean -Sebastien Aubin. In early July 2001 he was awarded a contract as a free agent with the New York Islanders. He was there, the back-up goalie, first of Chris Osgood, and later by Rick DiPietro.

On 18 July 2006, only a month previously set Neil Smith was fired as Islanders general manager of New York. Snow finished his career then and was introduced as the new general manager.

Internationally

Garth Snow participated with the U.S. national team at the 1994 Winter Olympics and the 1998 World Cup.

Awards and achievements

Career as General Manager

Snow caused a stir when he Goalie Rick DiPietro was a 67.5 million U.S. dollar contract over 15 years in September 2006. In his first season as general manager Garth Snow rebuilt the team. So he signed players like Richard Zedník, Randy Robitaille and Marc -Andre Bergeron. The biggest coup was on 27 February 2007, when he undertook a few minutes before the end of the transfer period striker Ryan Smyth of the Edmonton Oilers.
