Gary Boyle

Gary Winston Boyle (* November 24, 1941 in Bihar, India) is a British jazz-rock and fusion guitarist. Ian Carr, according to he considered as an exceptional jazz-rock guitarist.

Life and work

Boyle, who grew up in London since 1949, met with fifteen years of guitar. He first played with Dusty Springfield and accompanied with Brian Augers Trinity Julie Driscoll. From 1967 to 1969 he studied at the Leeds College of Music, and then return to Auger. In the 1970s he worked with Keith Tippett, Mike Westbrook and Mike Gibbs, but also took on Stomu Yamashta and with Rod Stewart. From 1973 to 1977 he led the fusion band Isotope in which he, later with Laurence Scott, Hugh Hopper and Nigel Morris released three albums with Brian Miller, Jeff Clyne and Nigel Morris and many in the UK, Europe and USA tours completed.

Boyle released several solo instrumental albums. In a duo and in larger formations, he worked with John Etheridge. He also toured in the UK in a duo with Eberhard Weber. With his trio, he played in the 1990s at major British jazz festivals. Since the mid- 1980s, he worked as a lecturer in guitar at the Paul McCartney Institute in Liverpool.
