Life

Gary Johnson joined as a political newcomer in the race for the nomination of the Republican Party for governor. He was much talked about in the primaries among other things, his unconventional and rather liberal views on drug policy of the United States. His term as governor was, accordingly, marked by a policy that is little state. He used his veto power in 200 of 424 bills alone in the first six months in office.

In the 2002 elections, he did not run for the post, due to the statutory provision that a governor in New Mexico may hold only two terms. As a result, the Republicans lost the governor's mansion to the Democratic Party. At the present time he has held no public office.
