Gary Kikaya

Gary Kikaya ( born February 4, 1980 in Lubumbashi ) is a sprinter from the Democratic Republic of Congo.

At the age of twelve he moved with his family to Johannesburg, where his father worked as a Congolese Ambassador to South Africa. 1999 Kikaya began his performance career in sport and moved in 2001 to the United States, where he attended the University of Tennessee.

The international breakthrough came at the World Indoor Championships in Budapest in 2004, when he won the bronze medal there in the 400 -meter run. At the Olympic Games in Athens, he reached the semi-final round. In 2005 he won at the Bislett Games in Oslo over 400 m, but missed at the World Championships in Helsinki the final.

In the Africa Championships in 2006 in Bambous he won the gold medal in the 400 -meter run. In the same year he attended the IAAF World Athletics Final in Stuttgart for a stir when he ran in 44.10 s, the 400 m. He broke the 19-year -old continental record of the Nigerian Innocent Egbunike and achieved the fastest ever spilled from a non- American time over this distance. However, he later dropped out at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka and at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing respectively in the semi-final round.

In the Africa Championships 2010 in Nairobi Kikaya won the bronze medal in the 400 -meter run.

Gary Kikaya is 1,84 m tall and weighs 75 kg.
