Gary Mabbutt

Gary Mabbutt MBE Vincent ( born August 23, 1961 in Bristol ) is a former English footballer. In spite of diabetes, he played over 600 league games in English professional football, and won with Tottenham Hotspur 1984 UEFA Cup and the FA Cup seven years later.

Career

Mabbutt started the professional career in his hometown at the Bristol Rovers. Although diabetes had been diagnosed with at the age of 17, he established himself as a versatile player a name; He had not, though he mostly acted at that time as a central defender or defensive midfielder a stock position. For a relatively small transfer fee in the amount of 120,000 pounds Mabbutt hired in July 1982 at Tottenham Hotspur, who had just previously won the English Cup.
