Gary Merrill

Gary Merrill ( born August 2, 1915 Hartford, Connecticut; † March 5, 1990, Falmouth, Maine ) was an American actor.

Life and career

Merrill gave his film debut in 1943. He celebrated his biggest success in 1950 with the film All About Eve. During the filming, he met his second wife, Bette Davis know. Both were married in the same year. Before the actor couple divorced in 1960, they adopted two children. 1952 Gary Merrill played in the film drama A stranger calls ( Phone Call from a Stranger ), the main role of a lawyer. Shelley Winters was the female lead. Bette Davis, was already a big star, took the small role of the bed bound Marie Hoke in this movie.

In later years, Gary Merrill was seen almost exclusively in television productions. In 1980, he retired into private life.

Gary Merrill was married from 1941 to 1950 to actress Barbara Leeds and died in 1990 at a cancer.
