Gary Oakes

Gary James Oakes ( born September 21, 1958 in London) is a former British hurdler.

Oakes took at the Athletics Junior Championships 1977 in Donetsk third place in the 400 - meter hurdles. About the same distance it was 1980 and 1982 British national champion and 1981 champion of the Amateur Athletics Association.

His most significant international success celebrated Oakes at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. In the 400 - meter hurdles, he won the bronze medal behind Volker Beck from the GDR and Wassyl Archypenko from the Soviet Union. Later Oakes started yet at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki in 1983, but failed to qualify for the finals themselves.

Gary Oakes is 1,77 m tall, had a competition weight of 69 kg, and started for the Haringey Athletic Club. His wife Heather Hunte won two Olympic bronze medals with the British 4 x 100 - meter relay.
