Gary Peacock

Gary Peacock ( born May 12, 1935 in Burley, Idaho ) is an American jazz bassist.

Peacock was originally a pianist and played in a band in the U.S. Army in Germany. In 1956 he moved to bass and was still working in Germany with Hans Koller, Albert Mangelsdorff, Attila Zoller, Tony Scott, and Bud Shank. In 1958 he went to Los Angeles, where he among other things performed with Barney Kessel, Don Ellis, Terry Gibbs, Shorty Rogers and Paul Bley. In 1960, he married Annette Peacock. In 1962 he moved to New York City where he played with Bill Evans, Paul Bley Trio which, Jimmy Giuffre, Roland Kirk and George Russell. 1964 began working with Albert Ayler; in addition he also appeared with Roswell Rudd and Steve Lacy.

From 1969 to 1972 he lived in Japan, after which he studied at the University of Washington biology. Between 1976 and 1983 he taught music theory at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. Since 1983 he is with Jack DeJohnette to Keith Jarrett Trio Standards.
