Gary Peters (politician)

Gary C. Peters ( born December 1, 1958 in Pontiac, Michigan) is an American politician. Since 2009 he represents the state of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Gary Peters attended until 1980, the Alma College and studied at the University of Detroit, where in 1984 he earned a Master of Business Administration afterwards. He also studied at the Wayne State University law. Between 1993 and 2000, and again from 2001 to 2005 he was a member of the Reserve of the U.S. Navy. Peters taught at Oakland University in Rochester and at Wayne State University in Detroit. At Central Michigan University, he taught the subject political science.

Politically, Peters joined the Democratic Party. In 1991 and 1992 he sat in the City Council of Rochester; 1995 to 2002 he was a member of the Senate of Michigan. In 2002, he competed unsuccessfully for the office of Attorney General of Michigan. The following year he was appointed commissioner of the state lottery. He succeeded, with new games to increase revenue, which will be invested in Michigan in education.

In the congressional elections of 2008, Peters was in the ninth constituency of Michigan in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Joe Knollenberg on January 3, 2009. Since he 2010 with 50 % of the vote against Republican Andrew Raczkowski (47%) won in the congressional elections of the year, it can take on 3 January 2011, a second two -year term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is currently a member of the Finance Committee and the Committee on Science and Technology.

Gary Peters is married to Colleen Ochoa, with whom he has three children. Private the couple lives in Bloomfield Hills.
