Gary Suter

Gary Lee Suter (* June 24, 1964 in Madison, Wisconsin ) is a retired American professional ice hockey player who for the Calgary Flames, Chicago Blackhawks and San Jose Sharks played in the National Hockey League from 1985 to 2002.

Career

As a junior he played with the Dubuque Fighting Saints in the United States Hockey League before he went to the team from the University of Wisconsin -Madison from 1983 to the ice.

NHL Entry Draft 1984, he had to wait until the ninth round, where the Calgary Flames chose him as 180. He stayed a year at the University and played for the United States at the Junior World Championships before he moved to the NHL to Calgary. 68 points as a defender in the first season earned him the Calder Memorial Trophy as the best rookie, and already in its third season 1987/88 he managed 70 assists with 91, the highest of his career. In 1989, he took with the Flames the Stanley Cup. 1994 gave him the Flames to the Hartford Whalers from, but from Hartford, it went without a game to have completed the next day on to the Chicago Blackhawks.

Four and a half years remained Suter in Chicago before he became replaced by Paul Coffey, since he was injured. In San Jose you had registered that Suter was to have and took him to the 1998/99 season, in which he played only one game. The following season, he returned to the ice and was until 2002 a size in the defense of the Sharks. He crowned his career with the silver medal win at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. In 2011 he was honored with induction into the United States Hockey Hall of Fame.
