Gary Taylor (scholar)

Gary Taylor (born 1953) is George Matthew Edgar Professor of English Language at the Florida State University. He is one of the editors of The Oxford Shakespeare series and worried by the Oxford University Press edition of the works of Thomas Middleton.

Life

Taylor studied at the University of Kansas and received his doctorate at the University of Cambridge. With Stanley Wells, he worked in the period from 1978 to 1986 on the publication of the Oxford Shakespeare edition. He was a lecturer at Oxford University, the Catholic University of America, Brandeis University (where he was Head of the English language ) and the University of Alabama. There he headed from 1995 to 2005 the " Hudson Strode Program" for studies of the Renaissance. In 2005 he was appointed to the Department of English Language at Florida State University. Where he heads the interdisciplinary program "History of Text Technologies ". Taylor has done research on Shakespeare, Middleton, the culture of the early modern period, canon formation, ethnocentrism and Androcentrism. He is mainly known for his work on " New Bibliography ," for which he has received scholarships from the Folger Shakespeare Library, the National Endowment for the Humanities and the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation. Taylor is working with John Lavagnino for many years to the publication of The Collected Works of Thomas Middleton, published by Oxford University Press in 2007.
