Gas Exporting Countries Forum

The Forum Gas Exporting Countries (English: Gas Exporting Countries Forum in short, GECF ) is a closed in Moscow December 23, 2008 alliance of the world's leading producers of natural gas, which previously since 2001 under the same name as a loose formation without statute and without fixed membership structure existed.

History

The establishment of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum was first discussed at the proposal of Iran in 2001 at a meeting in Tehran. Since then, an annual ministerial meeting gas exporting countries took place.

As a result, there was speculation about whether the world's biggest gas suppliers ( including specially Russia and Iran) are planning to set up a gas cartel that would constitute an equivalent to OPEC in the field of natural gas. In June 2008, an expert meeting was held in Moscow to prepare an official certificate of incorporation, and in October, Iran's Oil Minister Gholam Hossein Nosari said after a meeting with representatives from Russia and Qatar specifically this: "There is a need for a gas OPEC, and we are we agree that we will establish a gas OPEC. "

Objectives

The Forum plans to unite the interests of member countries in the gas markets and member countries intend to support each other in promoting.
