Gas Powered Games

Gas Powered Games is an American video game development studio in Redmond ( Washington). The studio was founded in 1998 by Chris Taylor, the spiritual father of Total Annihilation. Following the closure of development studios Cavedog Entertainment 2000 more developer Chris Taylor followed to Gas Powered Games.

History

The maiden title by Gas Powered Games was the rather successful role-playing game Dungeon Siege, which was now with an add -on and a sequel title, also with add-on, continued. 2007, the Studio Supreme Commander, an unofficial sequel to Total Annihilation, however, which came up with a new backstory and various other innovations, as the rights to Total Annihilation are currently at Atari. Nevertheless, Supreme Commander was a resounding success and was enthusiastically received by both critics and players alike. An add-on, Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance, was released in November 2007 and another planned add-on has been announced but not completed. Instead, Gas Powered Games and Chris Taylor announced at E3 2009 Supreme Commander 2. Then at gamescom '09 a first " pre-alpha " version was introduced, the fans could play was even then. In the U.S., Supreme Commander 2 was released on 2 March 2010, the European release was scheduled for March 5, 2010, at which date only the PC version was released, the Xbox 360 version was only a few weeks later.

The third-person shooter Space Siege ( released on August 22, 2008) obtained in the tests of Games Magazine, in contrast to previous titles, rather poor reviews. ( PC Games Editors: 64%, PCGames community: 58%, 4Players Editing: 45%)

Until early 2013, Gas Powered Games has worked for Microsoft in the browser game Age of Empires Online.

On January 14, Gas Powered Games launched a Kickstarter campaign for the real-time strategy / action RPG hybrid title Wildman. Shortly thereafter, the company dismissed due to liquidity problems, with few exceptions, all employees. Taylor explained that they had invested all the assets in the development of the game and the company's survival now depended on Wildman's success. On February 12, Gas Powered Games stopped the Kickstarter campaign, which was only 504 120 U.S. dollars, less than half of the intended target sum of 1.1 million dollars. Taylor stated that they now wanted to focus on other ways to save the company. A little later it was announced that the Belarusian developers Wargaming.net ( World of Tanks ) Gas Powered Games will take over.
