Gases is a municipality with 931 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district of Weiz in the Austrian province of Styria.

Geography

The nature park village gases in the region Teichalm - Summeralp in Eastern Styria. The highest elevation is the sour Peak with an altitude of 1451 m.

The municipality comprises the following four localities ( in parentheses population as of 31 October 2011):

  • Gases ( 137)
  • Mitterbach (141 )
  • Sonnleitberg (425 )

The municipality comprises the cadastral Amassegg, gases, Mitterbach and Sonnleitberg.

History

1406 can be found in Zehentbuch of the Bishop of Seckau the first documentary mention of the place gases. However, a Roman period street and the Slavic origin of the borough's name, and many geographical names point to a far earlier settlement.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms of the municipality of gases was awarded on May 8, 1989. It shows on a green background three silver ash leaves over two growing mountain chopping, eye to eye, side pushing to the plate edges. The integration of the ash is due to the Slavic place names " Jasen " ( Eschenbach ). The mountain hoes symbolize the mining past of the place, while the green ground points to the erstwhile princely Styrian possession in gases.

Culture and sights

Music

Gases is the hometown of Stoakogler, a popular Austrian folk music group. The Stoani House of Music includes an exhibition in which the history of Stoakogler in particular, and the development of popular entertainment music generally be represented.

Sport and leisure activities

At the local sports court held amateur football tournaments regularly. Every 2 years, organized the Musikverein gases, the country's football tournament for Blasmusikanten, which always about 30 men's and 10 women's teams from all parts of the Styrian participate.

At the annual " Stoanilauf " will welcome many amateur athletes from near and far.

The Stoakogler national path is a 12 km loop trail along the homesteads of three brothers Willingshofer
